MAGNETIC FIELDS - influence, as of late 2001

Beulah’s new single contains the line “I heard he wrote you a song / So what? / Some guy wrote 69″. (The Real) Tuesday Weld stole a throwaway joke from the Magnetic Fields’ “Underwear” for the title of his single “L’amour Et La Morte”, though he keeps mangling the French when he sings it. Stars’ new EP has a song that begins “All the umbrellas in London… couldn’t hide my love for you.”

Interestingly, Beulah owe the least musical debt to the Magnetic Fields and wield the influence most effectively. Stephen Coates of (The Real) Tuesday Weld can’t stop aping the Fields musically but blows the reference.

I’m just saying, CDs are cheap. Everybody should own more than seven.

CAN YOU STILL SAY ‘PILOT’ ON TV?

Sally Infinite is a cop born on the mean streets of Baltimore. Tim Justice is an FBI agent who does things by the book. But when they get together, look out… for INFINITE JUSTICE.

This week: Tim looks up ‘Islam’ at the library, while Sally sticks bamboo shoots under Bill Maher’s fingernails.
